AT A GLANCE
Client: Creative Benefits, Inc. (CBI)
Industry: Employee benefits consulting
Headquarters: Newtown Square, PA, with a second office in Kingston, PA
Solution: Commission IQ, powered by Sparkflow™
Focus: Commission reporting, carrier payment tracking, agent and book-of-business performance
THE CLIENT
Creative Benefits is a woman-owned, WBENC-certified employee benefits consultancy serving employers across the Philadelphia region and Northeastern Pennsylvania. Its team of consultants, account managers, and agents designs and manages benefits programs across a wide range of carriers. Revenue arrives as carrier commissions, and many of its agents are paid partly on commission. That makes accurate, timely commission data central to how CBI runs and grows.
THE CHALLENGE
CBI’s commission history spans nearly three decades of policies, carriers, and agent splits, all held in its agency management system. Getting answers meant exporting data and assembling spreadsheets by hand.
For a finance team responsible for budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling, that effort was a constraint:
Missed Carrier Payments: Missing or irregular carrier payments were hard to catch quickly.
Manual Trend Analysis: Year-over-year trends by client, carrier, or agent required manual work before anyone could act on them.
Doubt in the Numbers: Reports assembled by hand also left room to doubt the numbers.
THE SOLUTION
CBI came to Liventus on the recommendation of Darrell Orcutt, a long-time advisor to the agency. Liventus deployed Commission IQ, which consolidates CBI’s full commission history into a single, governed data model on Sparkflow. That model feeds interactive Power BI reporting.
CBI’s finance and leadership teams now work from:
Summary dashboards with commission totals and trend charts up front.
Flexible filtering by renewal date, client, carrier, agent, and calendar year.
Year-over-year comparisons that rank clients, carriers, and agents by commission growth or decline.
Product-mix analysis that shows which lines of coverage drive the most revenue.
Missing payment detection, supported by a monthly accounting review of key carriers.
One-click exports to Excel and PDF for sharing across the office.
THE RESULTS
Faster answers. Reports that once required manual assembly can now be pulled and shared right away.
Proactive payment oversight. CBI’s accounting team runs a monthly carrier review that flags missing commissions before they age.
Clearer revenue drivers. Product-mix reporting shows which coverage lines contribute most to profitability.
Insight from across the team. Long-tenured staff can explore the data directly and spot opportunities that weren’t visible before.
WHAT’S NEXT
CBI plans to apply the same data to each agent’s book of business: how many clients each agent manages, how concentrated each book is, and where agents have capacity to pursue new business.
“It’s a little like Moneyball. All these numbers are at our fingertips now. The question is how we use them.”
— Mick Keelan, Director of Finance, Creative Benefits, Inc.
“We can pull it so much more quickly now and share it with people here who’ve been doing this for years. Something will pop into their mind, and to me that’s the really interesting part.”
